"Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."
What a beautiful testament to this family who has lost their beloved son, brother & uncle. They took a tragic loss and began a foundation in memory of him, that has been a blessing to those in need. It's not only an honor to be dancing for this amazing cause but for the Anselmo Family, what a delightful and inspirational family! Plus, it's not easy saying "NO" to the Godfather!
On June 15, 2018 Maria's father passed away quickly & unexpectedly. One of Maria's last memories with her father was dancing with him at a fundraiser in February before he passed. Maria knew in her heart that to honor her Dad would be to dance for the wonderful BMA organization in his memory. Her faith has given her the strength to see that even in the hardships of life there is good to come.
Maria has been married to her husband, Christopher, for 13 years and God has blessed them with two beautiful young girls, Emily & Ava. She will hopefully not embarrass her family too much by her "lack" of dance moves! When Maria shared with her family that she was going to dance for the BMA Foundation they all just laughed...clearly, they don't think she can dance!
The desire to give her time, talent & treasure to the community was instilled in her at a very young age. Her Mother was a "professional volunteer" when Maria was young and now the gift of service is part of Maria's everyday life. She's very active in volunteering her time to various community organizations of the greater Kansas City area, her church and daughters' school. She finds more joy in giving than receiving. She's thrilled, maybe just a little nervous, to share in the impact that the BMA Foundation has on our community!
Maria will be dancing with Jim MacAuley.
Jim has been a ballroom dancer and instructor for almost 20 years, he is one of the most experienced teachers that Kansas City has to offer. Jim has spent half his lifetime absorbing as much information as possible, having trained in American Rhythm, Smooth, International Latin, and Standard has made him an exceptional and patient teacher. His instructing style cannot be matched. His career has been spent traveling both nationally and abroad performing, competing, and training both students and teachers. Jim and his wife Jessica own and operate Paramount Ballroom, one of the largest ballroom dance studios in the city. They are strong believers in community, and helping others achieve any goal they desire and participate in as many charities as they can. Jim began dancing at young age, watching his parents dance around the kitchen. When he began training in ballroom, he fell in love immediately and never looked back. His passion has always been performing. He has performed at venues like the Folley Theatre, Dancesport competitions, other local charities, and the Lyric Opera. Jim is beyond proud to be a part of this event and looks forward to performing for another wonderful charity.
